During this visit to pagodas, I pay homage to Buddha from the core of my heart and feel a connection with Buddhism. I was very much surprised how true dharma disappeared from its land of origin India and I started researching back into history. My research and observation make me understand the hidden truth of the past and manipulation in history to suppress the facts, the true dharma was destroyed over the centuries but while it was being destroyed in its own land at the same time it was flourishing in Asia and around the world.

Time flies and I moved to Vietnam infrom the time I moved to Vietnam till July-August everything went well but all of a sudden my personal and professional life got into trouble.

I was depressed and worried about my future and my mind again went back to Nichiren, sometimes the worst thing happened in our life to redirect us to the right path. The karma started to change because the right cause was being created, my life situation started improving and happiness returned back in all forms. The reason why I have opted for Nichiren Shu is because they believe in Shakyamuni buddha and Nichiren as bodhisattva.

After I read Lotus Sutra and understand about many buddhas from the past, it made me believe that Nichiren is also a buddha who was awakened to truth and wanted sentient beings to enter the highest path and quickly attain Dharma.

Nichiren continues the Shakyamuni mission and the buddhas will keep appearing in the world to save the sentient beings from suffering and leading them towards achieving the enlightenment. Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism teaches that each person actually has the potential within his or her life to manifest the enlightened life of the Buddha, consisting of the wisdom to perceive the Law of Causality over the three existences of past, present and future, and to experience the actual compassionate life and heart of the True Buddha — a life condition of absolute, indestructible happiness.

If we chant Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo DAimoku and awaken our Buddha nature each and every day, a great difference beings to manifest in our daily life. The problems we have with people at work will naturally change.

The problems we have with our friends or our families, or in social settings, will change. Our health or the condition of our mind and thinking, our very spirit towards life itself will change for the better. Simultaneously, we will amass tremendous good fortune for our futures. In Buddhism there are three kinds of proof — documentary, theoretical and actual. In this introduction to Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism, we will attempt to address the first two, documentary and theoretical by chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo ourselves to the Gohonzon object of worship in Nichiren Shoshu.

Shakyamuni, the historical founder of Buddhism who lived in India 3, years ago, predicted in the Great Collection Sutra Daijuku Sutra that the world would enter an age of strife and religious confusion 2, years after his death. This age actually began around the year Shakayamuni taught that the Original True Buddha, the master of all Buddhas, would appear in the world to teach this true Buddhism for the people in this later time period.

They consist of the true object of worship, the high sanctuary, and the invocation or Daimoku. Nichiren Daishonin states:. And this is not merely my own opinion. ShakayamuniTaho, and all the other Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions as well as the innumerable Bodhisattvas of the Earth have so determined…. A lamp will be useless after the sun rises. On that day Nichiren Daishonin first chanted and taught Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo for the enlightenment of all living beings. Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo is also called the Mystic Law of cause and effect, because within it is both the cause and effect attaining Buddhahood. The Lotus Flowers produces its flower and seeds at the same time, representing the simultaneity of cause and effect.

The cause is to chant Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo and the effect is attaining enlightenment within our present lifetime. An outspoken critic of the established Buddhist schools and the secular authorities, he was also a person of great warmth and humanity, as is evident in the content of the numerous letters he sent to his followers. It was this deep concern for the welfare of ordinary people that made him such an unrelenting opponent of the often corrupt and oppressive social structures of his time. It was a life dedicated to propagating a teaching that could liberate people from their individual sufferings and create the conditions for a society based on respect for the fundamental dignity and equality of all people.

This same aspiration inspires the activities of the SGI and its members today. Nichiren was born in a small coastal hamlet to a family engaged in fishing—people on the lowest rungs of the strict social hierarchy of 13th-century Japan. At the age of 12, he began his schooling at a local temple called Seicho-ji and formally entered the priesthood at the age of Nichiren was moved by the plight of ordinary people, which he saw personified in the daily hardships of the people of his village.

This concern for human suffering was a profound motivational force in his efforts to grasp the heart of Buddhist doctrine. Following his entry into the priesthood, Nichiren embarked on a period of intense study of the Buddhist sutras and the various schools of Buddhism, traveling to the major centers of Buddhist learning in Japan. At the age of 32, he returned to Seicho-ji where, on April 28,he announced the conclusion of his studies in a lecture.

From that time on, Nichiren was subjected to constant harassment and persecution. He presented this treatise to the highest political authorities of Japan and urged them to sponsor a public debate with representatives of other schools of Buddhism. The call for public debate—which Nichiren would repeat throughout his life—was ignored, and he was banished to the Izu Peninsula. During the years that followed, his pointed criticism of other Buddhist doctrines invited a series of persecutions from the other schools and from the government authorities.

These included armed attacks, ambushes, further banishment and ultimately an attempt to execute him at Tatsunokuchi. Nichiren was banished to Sado Island where, amidst extreme deprivation, he continued to share his teachings, writing treatises and letters of encouragement to his followers.

It confirmed that, while he remained an ordinary being, his true and original identity was that of a Buddha with the mission of spreading the teaching of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, providing the means for people to free themselves from suffering at the most fundamental level.

It was after this that he began to inscribe the Gohonzon for his followers—a scroll inscribed with Chinese characters that embodies the Mystic Law to which he was enlightened. He once again remonstrated with the government authorities to discontinue their reliance on erroneous teachings, but, for a third time, they declined to heed his advice. He decided then to leave Kamakura and took up residence in the foothills of Mount Minobu where he devoted himself to fostering disciples who would carry out the work of spreading the teaching after his passing.

This also provoked harassment and persecution. Inin the village of Atsuhara, 20 converts were arrested on trumped-up charges. They were harshly interrogated to the point of torture and pressed to renounce their faith.

Eventually, three were executed.Three thousand years ago, Shakyamuni of India preached his highest teaching, the Lotus Sutra. This was the purpose of his advent. He predicted the appearance of the True Buddha in the Latter Day of the Law, the age that would begin years after his passing. On February 16,Nichiren Daishonin made his advent in Japan, and proved with his life the predictions made in the Lotus Sutra. On Oct, 12he inscribed the Dai-Gohonzon, the true object of worship, which will lead all humanity to enlightenment.

In Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism a devil is a function of human life that confuses and distracts a practitioner to prevent them from practicing properly and attaining Buddhahood. This function arises as a result of past evil karma accumulated in previous and present lifetimes.

For more than 20 years Nichiren examined Buddhist texts and commentaries at Mount Hiei's Enryaku-ji temple and other major centers of Buddhist study in Japan.
